Boppard


The Federal Academy’s seminar centre in Boppard

After a reconstruction period of two years, the historic building was dedicated to its present use in 1987.

It has 71 rooms with 82 beds; for the seminars, there are 5 class rooms, 1 PC training room and a number of group working rooms.

All class rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

In the lobby, there is an „Internetcafé“ with three work places. From 7 a.m. until midnight you can surf the Internet free of charge.

The modern dining hall offers room for 78 persons; our kitchen caters for up to 200 persons.

Historic data of the building

1450The fortified house of the Knights of Schwalbach is built in the late gothic style at the north-eastern corner of the city wall; its core allegedly dates back to the 13th century.
1660 - 1664Construction of the Franciscan monastery
1683 - 1686Construction of the Franciscan church in baroque-gothic style
1765The first Latin school in Boppard is et up in the Franciscan monastery
1802Closure of the monastery and secularisation
1815The monastery falls to the Prussian state, the church falls to the catholic community while the monastery buildings are auctioned off
1859

Prussia

receives the Franciscan church in exchange for the Carmelite church. The monastery is bought back and demolished in 1864 in order to make room for a new catholic teachers’ college.

1868

Completion of construction work on the teachers’ college and conversion of the former Franciscan church by architect Zweck from

Coblenz

1945Until the end of WW II the buildings served as a training facility for teachers even though the catholic teachers’ seminar had ceased to exist in 1926. Subsequently, the buildings accommodated an advanced grammar school
1983Closure of the advanced grammar school
1985 - 1987Conversion and extension of the buildings on behalf of the Federal Academy of Public Administration by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Agency for Public Works, Bad Kreuznach
